I consider photography as a passion and not just a hobby. I've met people who were seriously into it, they gave up their regular jobs and ignored their college degree just to pursue their passion in photography. However, the usual question that comes to mind is, "Can you really make a living out of it?" The truth is, the life of a full time photographer could be quite challenging, but given the right opportunities and through hard work, succeeding is quite possible, just like in any other profession. Here are some ways to earn through photography as shared to me by some friends in the industry:

1. JOIN PHOTOGRAPHY CONTESTS
Photo contests can be a good source of income, especially if you have a huge network. Prizes can be very big, so there is totally nothing wrong with taking things seriously if you intend to win and get the prize.

One less tiring way to earn with photography is to sign up as a contributor on stock photo websites and earn a commission for downloads of your photos.

3. COVER EVENTS
Though it will require more effort, it is still the best way to earn, since clients will be willing to pay lucrative amounts to someone who could take great photos of their special moments and celebrations.

4. SELL PHOTOS TO PUBLICATIONS
You could propose to mainstream publications to be one of their partners or accredited photographers who could provide images for their articles.

5. SETUP A BLOG
Since photos are great content materials for blogs, why not setup a photo blog and maximize the platform for income streams like banner ads, affiliate links, etc.

6. SETUP A PHOTO STUDIO

It will require some resources, but if you do have enough capital to start your own photo studio, it could be a good idea to give it a go.

7. BE A PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Some people, especially those who want to post sexy photos on their profiles, would need professional skills to get the look and appearance that they want other people to see. Nowadays, there's a demand for personal photographers who would be okay with doing shoots at the client's place, as such type of clients find the said setting more convenient and safe for them.

8. OFFER YOUR SERVICE TO BUSINESSES
Remember that most companies do not have an in-house photographer, so offering your services to companies would be a very good way to earn using your skills.

BONUS: BE PROFESSIONAL
Considering the types of shoots a photographer could get him or herself into, it is very important to be professional at all times. Whether you're taking a picture of a sandwich or a naked person, never ever forget your values and stay professional. At the end of the day, photography is not just about having a nice camera, it's a business where trust is a very important factor. When people know you are highly professional and trustworthy, chances of getting referred is much more possible, and soon you might be surprised to find out that you're already a famous and highly respected photographer.
